Coffee Drinker's Paradise

by

Travis DeSilva

Even if it’s just for 15 minutes
She and I like to escape to our own world.
The only thing is two kids don’t seem to fit
In a coffee drinkers paradise on a Tuesday afternoon.
We watch in envy as a man works from his phone
“Sell 20 boxes to china” he says
Followed by an immediate sip of much needed caffeine.

This was our first trip back,
Since who knows when.
Life has been harsh, to the both of us.
We talked and watched the clock turn
As our drinks reached empty, we
Know “it’s time to go.”
She sticks out her pinky and
Tells me to do the same.
Once a week till, we leave the
Place we hate
We will take a trip to coffee drinkers
Paradise.
And we will talk about life
I will look her in the eye
And reassure her she is my friend
