The Cards of Life
by
Pat St. Pierre
The cards of your life were mismatched;
No pairs or straight flushes were in your hand.
You are lonely and bitter.
Somewhere deep in our soul
Scar tissue remains
Wounds appear to be healed
But inside
Cacophony plays havoc
With your emotions. As a child
Red liquid oozed from open wounds,
Your cries of anguish bellowed in the night
Leaving love behind closed doors.
