I Love You
by
Hanna May
We both know someday you’ll grow up.
And when you do
We can run away from this place together.
They have so much to say.
Yet, not a soul on earth really knows you.
How can they?
Neither do you.
You have no time to permit them.
And you’re too injured to let me in.
So malicious
Not while you can see
They love you…
For moments you’re around.
Unsure of what you want from life
So how can they say where you’re going?
How can they judge so cruelly
What they can’t identify clearly?
They place you
Under this microscope
Watching every move you make
Analyzing all of your foolish mistakes
Some days I scream and struggle for you.
Other times I sit back and watch.
Not knowing what to do.
Standing here, looking at you
Knowing I love you.
And waiting for the day it will be enough.
Someday you’ll no longer try
To prove yourself to this disparaging world.
And you’ll realize I’m all you need.
You kind of already do.
Sitting In this room so crowded,
You’d think it’s only us two.
We both know someday you’ll grow up.
And we can run away from this place together
Not looking back, never looking back at the way they injured you.
