Can I Be Tall?
by
Trish Wentling
A brown-eyed boy asked me one day,
'Will I grow taller than my sister if I pray?'
That important question came as a surprise
So thought hard while blinking my eyes.
Then answering the boy, I finally did,
With words that would enrich any kid.
"God knows you love him and your sister too.
Even when you are happy or feeling blue."
"So praying to Him to make you grow tall
Is not a silly questions to ask at all.
But you must be patient and wait for this
So then you will be taller than your sis."
So a month later, the boy rushed to my side
Eager to say something and grinning wide.
"It worked! I'm taller and thanked God in a prayer!
It's a half inch, now, but know I will get there."
He hurried back to sit with his friends
Still, our of the lot, the shortest of them.
But full of encouragement and joy,
He began his new growth as a happier boy.
