Pens on Fire Editing Services are a benefit available to help the emerging writer. Our purpose is to assist the writer in polishing the work for submission to the world of publishing
Services offered:
Formatting manuscripts for submission to publications, agents, and publishing houses.
The writing submitted for editing purposes is to remain distinct in style of the author. For that reason, suggestions for adding clarity to the work may be made. Advice for resolution of problems concerning voice, clarity and content will be made. The ideal end product is a clear clean copy that is easy for whomever the audience may be, whether publisher or general public.
The cost per page is $1.00. At roughly 200 words per page, we're substantially less expensive than other internet based firms. Industry averages were shown at $0.01 per word, equaling $10 every 1,000 words, whereas we are a mere $5 per 1,000 words.

Submission Guidelines and Standards
We require manuscripts to be size 12 font, Courier, and double spaced with one inch margins. Editor and publisher guidelines vary from 10 to 12 font, using different styles such as Times New Roman, Ariel, Chicago Times, and Courier, while all manuscripts are required to have double spacing, and one to one and a half inch margins. Our decision to use Courier-12 is to ensure ease of reading for all manuscripts, and is based on our understanding that the general consensus in the publishing industry is that Courier-12 is the most widely used and welcomed. This is how we will format each story, which you are welcomed to change upon receiving back your finished copy, but which will be the basis for our pay scale.
We would be pleased if you sent your manuscript in with these formatting guidelines in place so that we can more swiftly edit your manuscript and have it back in your hands in a timely fashion.

What We Do
Pens on Fire editing specializes in copyediting. Here is a comprehensive list of what we do:
1. Checking for misspelled words.
2. Checking for proper capitalization.
3. Formatting for indentation, proper paragraphing, line spacing, margin spacing, font design and font size.
4. Checking for punctuation.
5. Grammar.
6. Adding last name, part of title, and page number to header.
7. Making sure there will be no legal issues in the text.
8. Making sure the text flows well.
9. Making sure the text makes sense.
10. Cutting out needless words.
11. Cutting out all redundancy.
12. Making sure the text is both historically and factually accurate.

What We Won't Do-Faulty Expectations
Please be warned, your ability as a writer determines how well you will succeed. We cannot, and will not even try, to take a poor writer and turn them into a good writer. All we are capable of doing is taking what you have and cleaning it to the point where it is easy to read for a publisher, editor, or agent. We give no guarantee that your work will be accepted to print, only that it is the best work that is possible with what your ability is.
Becoming an author takes years of hard work and dedication and we would like to discourage writers who have just started from sending us manuscripts. We will take your projects, but it is at your own cost, as we can do no more than edit out mistakes in the grammar and punctuation and tighten up some of the sentencing.

Pens on Fire Fees and payment options
Pens on Fire editing charges a flat rate for copyediting of $1.00 per page, Courier-12-double spaced. Please refer to our "what We Do" page to see what copyediting entails and to see if it is right for you.
Cover letters cost $5.00 if we have edited your manuscript, and query letters cost $15.00. If we have not read your manuscript, the cover letter will cost $5.00 plus $0.10 per page and the query letters $15.00 plus $0.10 per page. The extra fees are for reading your manuscript.
Our preferred method of payment is Paypal. Other arrangements may be made if needed.
For manuscripts we require 25% of payment up front. For smaller projects, payment will be negotiated based on length.
