Five Birds Over Reading

by

Matthew Friday

Five birds over Reading flying in a constantly changing shape from a wobbling diamond to a
ladle
dipping to a slipping arrow.
They turn and take over each other but without rushing. They fly towards a huge flotilla of clouds like puffed up rowing boats.
And disappear: five tiny dots.

Legs Kicking

by

Matthew Friday

A little girl sits happily, both hands on her biscuit, her little legs kicking under the chair, feet not reaching the floor, loving the feel of air and space and freedom; little red shoes clicking against each other.
We have all been that child.
