Simple Requests, Complex Refusals
by

Trivialize my problems,
Tell me it will be all right,
I should never need you
The way I do tonight
You stand stoic, barely blinking,
A grave and scary sight.
Would it be the end of the world
If every now and then
I needed someone to tell me
The sky isn't falling
And the world isn't going to end?
A candle-lit prosaic scene
Would certainly be nice
But a drab and dirty coffee shop
Will simply have to suffice
Loneliness never gets easier
And everything's a mess
I asked for almost nothing
And got less
